  12. This directory contains the source code and executable for the 
  13. Shepherd program.

  15. WHAT IS IT?
  16. Shepherd is a utility which monitors stand-alone information
  17. servers like Gopher, WAIS, WWW, Jughead, and Submit to make sure
  18. they are responding.  If they don't respond then they are 
  19. restarted automatically.  It is intended for Unix Systems since
  20. it uses /etc/rc.local to get a list of servers to check and 
  21. should be run by the crontab every 5 or 10 minutes.  Works great!
